Flag of Canada

Two vertical red bands flanking a square white field, in the centre of which is a stylised 11-point red maple leaf. Red and white have been the official colours of Canada since 1921. The maple leaf has been a Canadian emblem since the 18th century. Before 1965, Canada used the Red Ensign with the Union Jack. The Maple Leaf flag was the result of a heated 'Great Flag Debate' under Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, and became official on February 15 — now Canada's National Flag Day.
