Flag of Cuba

Five horizontal stripes alternating blue and white (three blue, two white), with a red equilateral triangle at the hoist containing a white five-point star. Three blue stripes for the three original departments of Cuba; two white stripes for the purity of patriotic ideals; the red triangle for blood spilled for freedom; the white star — La Estrella Solitaria — for liberty. Designed in 1849 and adopted at the founding of the Cuban republic on May 20, 1902. The design predates the Cuban revolution by over a century.
