Flag of Egypt

Three equal horizontal bands of red, white and black, with the golden Eagle of Saladin centred on the white band. Red represents the period before the 1952 revolution; white the bloodless revolution itself; black the end of British colonial oppression. The Eagle of Saladin recalls the 12th-century Sultan. The pan-Arab colours of red, white and black are shared with Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan and Palestine. Each state distinguishes itself with central emblems or stars.
