Three equal horizontal bands of red, gold and green, with a black five-pointed star centred on the gold band. Pan-African colours: red for the blood shed for independence; gold for the country's mineral wealth; green for the rich forests and farms. The black star — the Black Star of Africa — represents African emancipation and unity. Adopted on March 6, 1957 when Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule. Designed by Theodosia Okoh. Practise the Ghana flag in the Flagzio Africa flag quiz across all eight game modes.
