Three equal vertical bands of green, white and orange. Green represents the Catholic Gaelic Irish tradition; orange represents the Protestant Ulster tradition (William of Orange); white in the middle represents the desired peace between the two. First flown in 1848 by Thomas Francis Meagher, the flag was officially adopted by the Irish Free State in 1922 and confirmed in the 1937 Constitution. Frequently confused with Côte d'Ivoire (orange-white-green — the mirror). Practise the Ireland flag in the Flagzio Europe flag quiz across all eight game modes.
