Flag of India

Three horizontal bands of saffron, white and green, with a navy-blue Ashoka Chakra — a 24-spoke wheel — in the centre. Saffron represents courage and sacrifice; white represents peace and truth; green represents faith and chivalry. The Ashoka Chakra represents the wheel of law, eternal motion and progress. Adopted in 1947 on the eve of independence, the flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya. The Chakra replaced Gandhi's spinning wheel in the final design.
