Three vertical bands of green, white and red — the Italian tricolour. The colours have several interpretations: green for the country's hills and plains, white for the snow-capped Alps, red for the blood spilled in the wars of Italian independence. Religious tradition links them to the theological virtues — hope (green), faith (white), charity (red). Inspired by the French tricolour, the Italian flag was first hoisted in 1797 by the Cispadane Republic. It became the flag of unified Italy in 1861 and the modern Republic in 1948. Practise the Italy flag in the Flagzio Europe flag quiz across all eight game modes.
