Red field with a stylised yellow sun radiating eight broadening rays to the edges. Red and yellow are traditional Macedonian colours. The sun represents the 'new sun of liberty' from the country's national anthem. Adopted on October 5, 1995, replacing an earlier 1992 design with the Vergina sun (which Greece had objected to as Hellenic).
