Flag of Nigeria

Three equal vertical bands of green, white and green. Green represents the country's agriculture and lush forests; white represents peace and unity. Designed by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, a 23-year-old student, the winning entry in a 1959 nationwide contest. Adopted at independence on October 1, 1960.
