Three equal horizontal bands of red, white and blue. The colours derive from the heraldic colours of William of Orange — originally orange, white and blue. Orange was replaced with red in the 17th century for visibility at sea. The Dutch tricolour is the oldest tricolour in the world, dating to 1572. It inspired the flag of Russia, which in turn inspired most of the Pan-Slavic flag family. Easily confused with the flag of Luxembourg — the only difference is a slightly lighter blue. Practise the Netherlands flag in the Flagzio Europe flag quiz across all eight game modes.
