Flag of Norway

A red field with a blue Nordic cross outlined in white, offset toward the hoist. The red-white-blue palette borrows from France (the flag's designer Fredrik Meltzer admired the ideals of the French Revolution) and from the British, Dutch and American flags — all then-symbols of constitutional liberty. Adopted in 1821, formally usable on land from 1898 and for all official purposes from 1899. Often cited as one of the cleanest, best-designed flags in the world.
