Three equal vertical bands of red, white and red. Legend says José de San Martín saw red-and-white flamingos taking flight on the coast of Paracas and declared 'these will be the colours of liberty'. Red for the blood of those who fought for independence; white for peace. Adopted in its current form in 1825. The state flag has a coat of arms in the centre; the civil flag (most common) is the plain tricolour. Practise the Peru flag in the Flagzio Americas flag quiz across all eight game modes.
