Flag of Singapore

Two horizontal bands of red over white with a white crescent and five white stars on the red band. Red represents universal brotherhood and equality of man; white represents purity and virtue. The crescent represents a young, ascending nation; the five stars represent democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. Adopted on December 3, 1959 when Singapore attained self-government.
